Description by Day
Minimize
Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu
We will meet you at Kathmandu airport (KTM) at the specified time and transport you to the hotel. Make sure your flight lands in Kathmandu no later than 9:00 am. Arriving a day earlier would be perfect - this allows you time to relax after your flight and begin your acquaintance with this enchanting city. We'll be checking your gear - if you're lacking anything, it's a good idea to purchase it in Kathmandu where equipment prices are very reasonable. We'll get to know each other over a group dinner.
Day 2
Heading to Chamje
We embark on our journey to the mountains early in the morning. Our first stop is Besisahar, accessible by a private vehicle. We navigate the steep and twisting mountain roads, catching glimpses of the scenic Nepalese towns and villages en route. After having lunch in Besisahar, we swap to jeeps to further our journey on the dirt road to Chamje village. This marks the beginning of our adventure. Here, we check into our first lodge. ↑ Elevation 1430 m.
Day 3
Chamje - Dharapani
We are already immersed in the heart of the magnificent Himalayas and commence our trek along the mountain path. The subtropical climate at this altitude allows for the growth of palm trees on the slopes, bananas along the roadways, and frequent sightings of monkeys. Lizards are ubiquitous. As evening falls, the cacophony of cicadas fills the air. We cross a river by a suspension bridge and pass enchanting waterfalls. The journey covers 13 km. ↑ Elevation 1860 m. (+430 m.)
Day 4
Dharapani - Chame
We trek along the floor of a deep rocky gorge, following the Marsyangdi River, steadily gaining altitude and occasionally crossing the river via suspension bridges. As we ascend, the subtropical climate transitions to a temperate one, and we observe the cultural shift from Nepalese to Tibetan through the small villages we pass. Today, we'll get our first glimpse of Annapurna II and Manaslu (8156 m). In the evening, we go to bathe in a hot spring (46°C) in Chame. → Distance 15 km. ↑ Altitude 2650 m. (+790 m.)
Day 5
Chame - Upper Pisang
Our path follows a gravel road, etched into a vertical cliff, and takes us by the mountain Paungda-Danda with its astonishingly smooth face, and through orange groves. We reach the Upper Pisang village, characterized by its historic Tibetan-style homes. Here, we're treated to vistas of Annapurna II, III, and IV. → Distance covered is 15 km. ↑ Elevation 3300 m. (+650 m.)
Day 6
Upper Pisang - Manang
We navigate a slender mountain path, soaring above the river, the snow-capped Annapurna peaks as our constant companions. Encounters with yaks are frequent. By nightfall, we find ourselves in Manang, a relatively sizable settlement. Here, delightful baked treats await, particularly apple pies crafted from local apples. Distance covered is 15 km. ↑ Elevation 3500 m. (+200 m.)
Day 7
Manang - Tilicho Base Camp
We undertake a breathtaking journey along a mountain trail shrouded by junipers. The river now lingers far beneath us. The landscape sprawls for miles around, and occasionally, we're lucky enough to spot a snow leopard. The thinning air grows apparent, making the ascent challenging, yet it primes us well for the greater altitudes to come. → Distance 14 km. ↑ Altitude 4150 m. (+650 m.)
Day 8
Tilicho Lake
Tilicho Lake serves as the "crown jewel" of our entire program (as seen on the cover of this tour) and plays a significant role in our acclimatization before the climb to Thorong La pass. Tilicho is among the world's highest altitude lakes. It's reasonably large with an area of 4.8 km and a verified depth of 75 m. Given favorable weather and time conditions, we will make a point to swim in it. We return to the Base Camp by evening. → Distance 5.5 km. ↑ Altitude 4919 m. (+800 m.)
Day 9
Tilicho Base Camp - Yak Kharka
Our journey today is long but relatively straightforward, primarily descending. As we move, the greenery gradually gives way to more rock formations, with Edelweiss flowers scattered among them. Enjoying the Himalayan air imbued with the fragrance of grass and juniper is a treat in itself, as is the scent of Nepalese incense wafting from the villages! → Distance 10 km. ↑ Altitude 4040 m. (-100 m.)
Day 10
Yak Kharka - Thorong La Upper Camp
As we progress, we leave the final vestiges of vegetation behind, and rocks gradually transition into snow. The view from the Upper Camp, featuring surrounding snow-covered peaks and the distant valley below, is truly stunning! We turn in early for the night, to ensure we're well-rested for our early start. → Distance 8 km. ↑ Altitude 4900 m. (+760 m.)
Day 11
Thorong La Pass, 5416 m.
The pivotal trek of the route is through Thorong La Pass. Snow is everywhere around us. The oxygen scarcity becomes rather tangible, hence our progress is slow. Post the pass, we descend to the village of Muktinath, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The area is abundant with temples and monasteries. The view opens up to the Dhaulagiri Mountain standing tall at 8167 m. We spend the night in Muktinath, at the renowned Bob Marley Hotel, with yak steak being the recommended dinner dish. Distance 14 km.
Day 12
Transfer to Pokhara
A lengthy and somewhat tiring (yet undeniably stunning) jeep journey to the resort town of Pokhara. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the picturesque shores of Phewa Lake, followed by a delightful dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 13
Sightseeing in Pokhara
Pokhara is Nepal's main resort. The tourist zone is located on the shore of a scenic lake, offering one of the most beautiful views of the Annapurna range. On this day, we will visit a cave temple, the peace pagoda on the top of a mountain, and a remarkable mountaineering museum.
Day 14
Return to Kathmandu
We make our way back to Kathmandu on a private bus. Hotel check-in. The evening is spent in Kathmandu, enjoying Nepalese national music and songs. We'll walk around Thamel, the primary tourist area. There is also a chance to enjoy a Nepalese massage in the top salon (20-30 USD an hour). Hotel overnight stay.
Day 15
Sightseeing in Kathmandu
On this day, you'll explore three key landmarks in Kathmandu: Swayambhunath Temple, the Boudhanath Buddhist temple complex, and the Pashupatinath Hindu temple complex. In the evening, we'll share our last meal together at a Tibetan restaurant, where we'll enjoy the home-brewed Tibetan beer, Tongba. Following dinner, we'll visit the rock bar, Purple Haze. We'll spend the night at the hotel. Should there be any flight delays from Lukla, this day will serve as a spare day.
Day 16
Flying Home
Morning starts with breakfast at the hotel. You'll be transported to the airport at any point during the day. Hotel checkout time is at 12:00 PM. If your departure is scheduled for the evening, you can store your luggage at the hotel.
